Summary

Solid Oak Stair Cladding Tread & Riser Pack

Solid Oak Tread with Oak Faced MDF Riser.

The Solid Oak Stair Cladding Range is manufactured to order and is usually delivered between 7-10 working days.

This system fits over your existing treads & risers to convert it to a solid oak look.

Reconditioning your stairs may sound challenging, but with the new Contract range of readymade 20mm Solid Oak stair treads and faced risers it couldn’t be easier, just cut to size and stick over your existing treads.

Our range has everything you need to clad most configurations of staircases including straight flights, winder flights and quarter landings. The product has been designed to be as simple as possible with minimal preparatory work required. Simply remove your existing stair covering, sand any major unevenness, cut your treads to size and glue them in place with a polymer adhesive.

Stair Tread & Riser Kit Contents

1 x 20mm Solid Oak Tread with Bullnose 265mm (deep) 1000mm (wide)

1 x Riser 10mm (thick) 230mm (high) 1000m (wide) (Supplied as Oak Faced Board not solid).

We can now supply a Top Landing Tread to match the thickness of your floor covering between 20mm and 15mm thick. To match 20mm or 18mm Solid Flooring. This will allow you to continue to cover your landing area with solid oak flooring.

Solid Oak Stair Cladding Fitting Guide

Before you start your stair cladding installation please read the instructions fully and contact us if you have any queries.

  1. Before you start, ensure that your existing steps and riser boards are clean, dry and free from uneven defects. We suggest you thoroughly sand the steps to ensure you get a good sound base for your new Stair Treads and Risers
  2. Measure the existing bullnose protrusion from the face of the existing riser board to the furthest point of the bullnose on the existing step. You can then cut packing strips from timber that will push the bottom of the Stair Riser board out and in line with the end of your bullnose. We suggest that these packing strips are screwed into place for stability.
  3. Starting at the Top of the staircase, measure and cut three Stair Risers to size and glue them onto the packing strips using polymer adhesive
  4. Measure the depth and width and cut a Stair Tread to size. Apply a 10mm bead of Flexible Polymer Adhesive to the top of your existing step
  5. Press the Stair Tread onto the Adhesive firmly ensuring the Stair Riser fits securely into the groove on the bottom of the Stair Tread
  6. Continue down the stairs fitting 3 riser boards first and then the treads.
  7. If you reach a mid-landing, then use the same method above but use Solid Oak Extension Boards to cover the landing area. These are supplied with a tongue and groove on the long edges that slot into the back edge of the tread.
  8. If you have large Kite Winder Steps, then you may need to use the 1500mm wide Stair Treads and Risers with Stair Extension Boards. You can usually use 1000mm Treads and Risers with Extension Boards for triangular shaped winders no wider than 1000mm
  9. Fix the stair treads and any joining riser boards first then cut the extension boards to size, apply a good amount of polymer adhesive and push the boards together until the area is covered. Do not put adhesive between the T&G joints.
  10. Work your way down the stairs to the bottom floor or use the Stair Klad Bottom Bullnose Step for cladding bullnose steps. This is supplied with a light oiled finish
  11. You will need to apply a coat of oil on your Stair after installation to ensure an even colour and protect the timber. Remember you will need to maintain your Stair Cladding after installation by oiling regularly to keep the timber looking fresh and protected.

Once fitted the treads and risers will need to be finished with a good quality hardwood oil or varnish.
